Vila Boa de Quires was named by Portuguee first King, D. Afonso Henriques since he tought this region produce excelent wine.

Years after, Vila Boa de Quires was given to Casa de Bragança in the wedding of D. Nuno Álvares Pereira's daughter with D. Afonso, D. João I's son.
